Vision & Mission: Psychology CREATEs

Vision Statement

The vision of the Psychology Club (Psychology CREATEs) is to inspire and empower undergraduate students to become leaders in the field of psychology. The club seeks to foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, and lifelong learning, encouraging students to pursue their passion for understanding human behavior and mental processes.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Psychology Club is to create an inclusive, engaging, and intellectually stimulating environment where students can explore psychology beyond the classroom. By offering professional development opportunities, research participation, educational events, and community engagement, the club aims to enhance the skills, knowledge, and experiences of its members, preparing them for future careers and academic pursuits in the field of psychology.

Club Objectives

The objectives of Psychology CREATEs focus on six key areas that support the academic and personal growth of its members:

  • Competence: Develop skills needed for future careers and graduate studies.
  • Research Participation: Promote research literacy, skills, and dissemination of findings.
  • Education: Facilitate learning through debates, lectures, and article discussions.
  • Awareness: Raise awareness of psychological issues through campaigns and outreach.
  • Technological Proficiency: Build technical skills relevant to psychology research.
  • Engagement: Cultivate a sense of belonging among students.

Club Pillars and Activities

Based on the objectives, Psychology CREATEs is structured around six core pillars, each supporting a specific aspect of the club’s mission.

1. Competence

The Competence pillar focuses on helping students develop professional and academic skills essential for success in psychology. Activities might include a mentorship program and various skill-building workshops covering topics such as resume writing, academic writing, and presentation skills. This pillar is adaptable, allowing students to propose and organize events that reflect their current needs and interests related to skill development.

Examples of events and activities:
Skill-Building Workshops: Resume writing, academic writing, and presentation skills.
Mentorship Program: Pairing third and fourth-year students with first and second-year students for guidance.
Vice President (VP Competence): Oversees and manages professional development and competence activities of the club.

2. Research

The Research pillar aims to encourage experimentation and the dissemination of psychological research. Activities might include managing an undergraduate journal, peer review sessions, or research symposia. Students are free to develop new ways to foster research involvement that reflect their own interests and passions.

Examples of events and activities:
Undergraduate Journal: Manage submissions, peer review, and publication of student research.
Research Competitions: Host contests for research presentations.
Vice President (VP Research): Oversees and manages research-related activities of the club.

3. Education

The Education pillar is dedicated to enhancing knowledge through organized debates, lectures, and discussions. Activities might include a debate series, panel discussions, and guest lectures that delve into contemporary psychological issues and theories. This pillar is adaptable, allowing students to propose and organize events that reflect their current needs and interests

Examples of events and activities:
Debate Series: Discuss novel or controversial psychological findings.
Guest Lectures: Invite experts to share insights.
Vice President (VP Education): Oversees and manages education-related activities of the club.

4. Awareness

The Awareness pillar promotes understanding and awareness of psychological concepts and issues. Activities might include developing a psychology podcast that explores psychological topics and interviews experts and various awareness campaigns on topics such as mental health and substance use. This pillar is adaptable, allowing students to propose and organize events that reflect their current needs and interests.

Examples of events and activities:
Psychology Podcast: Develop episodes on psychological topics and interview experts.
Awareness Campaigns: Organize events focusing on mental health and related issues.
Vice President (VP Awareness): Oversees and manages awareness-related activities of the club.

5. Technology

The Technology pillar focuses on developing technical skills relevant to psychology. Activities might include workshops on software tools such as SPSS, R, and SPM, which are commonly used in psychological research. This pillar is adaptable, allowing students to propose and organize events that reflect their current needs and interests.

Examples of events and activities:
Tech Workshops: Training in SPSS, R, and brain imaging tools.
Tech Support: Assist with technical aspects of research and events.
Vice President (VP Technology): Oversees and manages technology-related activities of the club.

6. Engagement

The Engagement pillar focuses on building a sense of community and encouraging participation. Activities might include psychology trivia nights, poster sessions, and competitions can foster camaraderie among members. Social events like movie screenings (with psych theme and analysis) and game nights may provide opportunities for students to connect in a relaxed setting. This pillar is adaptable, allowing students to propose and organize events that reflect their current needs and interests

Membership & Governance

Membership:
Membership is open to all undergraduate students. Members must attend at least two events per semester and actively participate in one pillar.

Meeting Schedule:
General Meetings: Held monthly to discuss club activities.
Executive Meetings: Held biweekly for planning and coordination.

Amendments:
Amendments to the charter require a two-thirds majority vote by the executive board.
